Wedding Checklist
Planning a wedding can be an exciting and rewarding experience.
It’s important to take the time to carefully consider all of the details and to work with a trusted team of suppliers to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the big day.
- Tell relatives and friends about your happy engagement
- Think about opening a wedding bank account
- Set a wedding date (remember to book time off work)
- Are you going to use a wedding insurance to safeguard your deposits
- Set a budget
- Decide and discuss who will be paying for what
- Choose and book your venue, ideally 12 – 18 months in advance
- Speak to the registrar, vicar or minister or religious person conducting the ceremony
- Compile the guest list, ideally with the help of both families
- Start visiting wedding fairs to get ideas
- Decide on bridesmaids, best man, ushers and pageboys
- Do you need a wedding planner or stylist
- Decide on number of guests
- Send out save the date cards
- Visit various venues and book
- Enquire about accommodation for guests
- Book caterer and discuss menus, think about the seasons
- Book transport
- Book photographer/videographer
- Book florist
- Book cake supplier
- Will you be having a Toastmaster
- Book wedding entertainment (DJs, band, magicians, fireworks, childcare etc)
- Book dance lessons!!
- Order invitations/stationery
- Choose hairstylist and make-up artist
- Begin beauty regime, great for a girl’s night in
- Decide on wedding dress
- Decide on bridesmaid, flower girls dresses
- Are you having a page boy
- Plan and book honeymoon – remember to book time off work
- Send out invitations
- Discuss the order of service with registrar, vicar or minister/religious person conducting ceremony
- If the wedding is in a church other than the Church of England, give notice of the marriage to the superintendent registrar
- Confirm register office booking
- Decide on grooms wear/best man etc. Arrange to hire menswear if required
- Wedding dress/bridesmaid/flower girl/page boy fittings
- Ensure bridesmaids dresses and accessories have been ordered
- Buy shoes, veil, headdress, lingerie and any other accessories
- Purchase wedding rings
- Finalise menus with your caterers, and any special requirements
- Order menus, order of service sheets and any other stationery
- Register your gift list, and send out details to your guests
- Finalise arrangements with your photographer and videographer
- Finalise honeymoon plans, check passports up-to-date, travel insurance, vaccinations and visas
- Order wedding favours
- Book accommodation for out-of-town guests
- Book honeymoon suite for wedding night
- Book pedicure/manicure
- Organise hen/stag parties
- Marriage licence
- Choose gifts for the wedding party
- Draw up final list of number of guests, chase unanswered invitations
- Confirm final numbers with venue, caterers and other suppliers as appropriate
- Finalise details with all suppliers
- Dress fittings
- Speeches to be written
- Finalise numbers with your caterer/venue and other suppliers
- Check that your outfit still fits comfortably
- Collect hired menswear and try it on: changes maybe required
- Wear in your wedding shoes to avoid blisters on the day
- Manicure/pedicure
- Have a practice hair and make-up session
- Pack for honeymoon
- Make final checks on the details
